Nazareth Hospital Now Offers Advanced Robot-Assisted Surgery with New da Vinci Xi System

Northeast Philadelphia — (February 5, 2021): Nazareth Hospital now offers state-of-the-art surgical technology with the recent acquisition of the da Vinci Xi Surgical System. This new surgical system features three-dimensional, high definition visualization and allows for enhanced dexterity and greater precision and control for the surgeon. Robotic-assisted surgery is minimally invasive and can reduce a patient’s time in the hospital.

Board-certified, robotically trained surgeon Dr. Omer Nasir, who also serves as the Medical Director of the Robotic Program at Nazareth, successfully performed the hospital’s first-ever robotic procedure using the new Xi to treat an inguinal hernia.

“This is a significant investment for both our hospital and community,” said Michael Magro, DO, MBA, FACOI, President of Nazareth Hospital. “By acquiring the da Vinci Xi robot, we've greatly expanded our surgical services for minimally-invasive surgeries. Introducing the latest technology for surgical procedures means Northeast Philadelphia residents can now access the most advanced life-saving procedures right here at Nazareth.”

"I am excited to use the da Vinci Xi Robot,” said Dr. Nasir. “It is a clear advancement in minimally invasive technology and will allow us to safely perform more complex procedures and apply robotic surgery to an increasing patient population."

By enabling efficient access throughout the abdomen and chest, the da Vinci Xi System expands upon core da Vinci System features, including wristed instruments, 3D-HD visualization, intuitive motion, and an ergonomic design.

Today, a team of highly trained and experienced surgeons at Nazareth can perform many different types of robotically assisted procedures including prostatectomy, hernia repair and bariatric surgery. Over time, Nazareth will continue to expand the latest technology and service offerings across different subspecialties, such as gynecology and thoracic procedures.
